Freyas training and Pixies ob

It has been so cool weeks! Freya has grown fast. She has been working on ob work. Heal work has been started a little bit super treats and I have given a cue to heal work starting position. I have managed to make my side Freyas favorite place. I think it a nice start for ob task. ;) She can also concentrate in every situation. She has done ob basics in agility training, in ob competition, in a mall yard and so on. I my goal is to generalize all her learned things to all situations. I only do stuff she knows already. All the new tricks I teach in a quiet place for a few first times. Here is our video of some basic ob things:

I have also started to work on some tricks that improve Freyas body awareness. I begun with backing up. This is the basic move that she need to handle to be able to learn more complex versions. Backing up teaches her to use rear end and this is useful to many other tricks. She has also learned to go around a bucket when she standing on it with her front feet. Yet again more awareness to her back legs. I have also taught her some silly trick like spinning, paw giving and so. These are tricks that teaches her how to work with me and I learn how to work with her. Here a video of some of our work:

Pixie had a ob trial. I liked her attitude a lot in trial but we had a problem with distractions and it didn't look that good overall. I was still pleased with her work. I have decided to change our ob goal working dog trials and we will have goal to enter to a tracking competition in the autumn. Pixie need to change her working style a bit for a working trials and we need to change our recall and retrieve routines because she has to come in front of me first. This will be a fun project and it will give new motivation because we will have lots of new things to learn.

Here is our last ob competition:

This is all for now!!! I will a big agility update soon.

Freyas training is going forward

Freya has really catching up with shaping. We have done about three short sessions a day. We have had a box that she has get into and out. Also we have done some balancing on a uneven box. All these has been done by just waiting her to make her move and make her choices closer to goal. When you are shaping you just need wait to get the right reactions and make into little steps that leads to the ultimate goal. Best part is that when your dog gets the idea it has been imprinted in his mind.

I have also made some work with ob task. Freya has been doing nicely with sit cue. Our new project has been laying down. I used some luring to get her go down but after few times I just started to wait. I also took a criteria of strait position right away. Freya had a style that she kicked her back legs to the side. I wanted get this position error away in few sessions. When she started to offer this behavior when I was standing, I introduced her the down cue. People seems to have a hurry to give specific behaviors a cue. I have learned that to more your make the behavior in different situations before you give it a cue, will give you more stronger reactions to that cue. Other key factor is the timing of the cue. Give the cue when the dog is doing the behavior. After that give the cue when the dog is starting to do it and after a while give it before to test it. Usually at this point the dog will give you the right behavior if you have done everything slow enough.

Freya has also met new puppy and adult friends. She has been really brave and open puppy. Freya loves to play so she gets going with strangers right way. She is really open with people too. Freya has met some kids and adults. I really clad about her behavior. In the other hand she has also some habits we need to work on. One is biting legs. When she really in the high drive more she can charge to legs and bites hard. That is some thing we need little work and also biting when she gets angry while playing. Freya is a little hot girl! Love her for that! I will have some work make her know the rules how work with humans.

Today just puppy writing.. Next time something that have done with my big girls!

Freyas first week in Finland

It's been a busy week with Freya and the girls. Freya has met new people and visited few training events to get the feeling of the areas. She has really brave and open. I have really loved to working with her. She has some differences to my girls. Biggest one is her sensitivity to touch while we play. My big girls love rough playing but Freya need some soft playing. She is getting more and more confident with tug games. I think it is just a matter of time that she will be also rougher tugger. She is brave but more sensitive in a way than my older dogs. Yet again it's import to stop and see the character of the puppy. Training must be fitted to each puppy so that it can built self confidence and braveness in her/his own terms.

Here is our video clips from our first week:

Freya has also started some basic training in OB. I have done some work with Freya with healing. Our first goal is to make healing starting position the most coolest place on earth. She has already started to offer the right place beside my leg but I haven't give it cue yet. I want to make sure Freya can make correctly for awhile. I have done also some contact training in different places. Freya has worked really well even though there have been other dogs training and playing. She can concentrate really really well.

Pixie and I visited a training competition to train our start line stay. I have done the notice that going to the course is the most biggest reward for her. So I have no other choice than go training in a competition situation. I have also made a goal that I just can walk to my position in a course and Pixie has to wait calmly. We had really nice start line stays. She did steal for few times but when it all ended there she seemed to have better idea of the rules of game. I hope to have successful training today also.

Pixie has also done some ob because I entered her again to a competition. She has done really well and my goal has been to work on her attitude. Z-walk has been one the biggest problems. She seem to just stare at cones and thinks it a marker task. I can only blame myself for this. I have been too lazy to put cones to right places while I train the Z-walk. Well little work and  I think we can turn this to better performance. Other wise she has done super! Scent discrimination I have been working on with speed. I think it will be better also after while. I have got really training boost to OB. I hope still will last and I might even enter to Finnish Championships ;D

That's all for now!! :D

Freya is home

Last few days have been very busy. Freya came home on Saturday. Puppy has been doing super fine. She has been really brave. My girls have been little cold with her but little by little warming up to our new comer. These first few days I have tried to teach Freya her name and basic recall. I have also started clicker training her with a trick and sit cue. It has been so interesting to see how she react to all these new things. I have also started to train her play with all shorts of different toys.

Socialization work has also begun with different visits. Freya has met few of friends and traveled in the car for few times. We also did a visit to a farm where Freya saw sheep, chickens and horses. She also got to watch my friends dog do herding. Freya was really brave. She followed the sheep with no fear and even smelled a horse from her leg and nose while she was on the ground. Yesterday we went to see how agility competition looks like. Freya was with me when I walked the course. She such a brave girl yet again.

Clicker training has been started with going to a box game. Freya got the idea really fast. Other things I have been shaping is sit and standing. Sit is actually starting to be under a cue. So we can start train a little bit of duration. She has been really easy to work with and tries already nicely. I plan to shape her a lot trick to make her shaping savvy. Then I hope to start building some competition movement. I have also done some core muscle work. Freya has been doing climbing on to a uneven surfaces that move. Yet again she has been super!!

This post was a little bit about Freya's new life in Finland. My old dogs have been working also in their own sports.

That's all for now!! Thank you Jane for this perfect and crazy puppy!!!
